Erica is known for her thoughtful, patient-first approach and her belief that movement is not just medicine—it’s a return to self.

Education and Early Experience

Erica Viscovind, DPT, is a passionate and highly skilled physical therapist specializing in outpatient orthopedics, pelvic floor physical therapy, and sports rehabilitation. With a deep commitment to whole-person care, Erica believes true healing goes beyond treating symptoms—it’s about restoring strength, confidence, and connection to self.

Born and raised in San Pedro, California, Erica’s journey into physical therapy began with a personal challenge. As a dedicated high school runner, she was forced to stop competing due to debilitating shin splints. It was through physical therapy that she not only healed physically but rediscovered a profound sense of purpose. That experience ignited her calling to help others reclaim their lives through movement, resilience, and support.

Erica earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology – Exercise Science from California State University, Long Beach, where she also competed as a collegiate athlete in cross country and track. During her time at CSULB, she worked alongside USA Track and Field and participated in sports science research, focusing on motor control and learning. Her love for sport, science, and service continued to evolve, leading her to pursue her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of California, San Francisco/San Francisco State University, where she completed advanced training in running biomechanics and conducted a systematic review on yoga as an adjunctive treatment for eating disorders.

After her first clinical rotation in San Luis Obispo, Erica fell in love with the Central Coast and chose to build her career there. Since then, she has worked extensively in outpatient orthopedics, with a growing emphasis on pelvic health—a field she is deeply passionate about. In 2024, she became certified in pelvic floor physical therapy and now helps women through every stage of life, from pre- and postpartum care to menopause and beyond.

Treatment Philosophy

Erica approaches every patient relationship with intention, empathy, and deep respect for the individual journey. She believes that healing is not one-size-fits-all—and that effective physical therapy must be rooted in trust, collaboration, and education. For Erica, physical therapy isn’t just about resolving pain or restoring function—it’s about helping people reconnect with their bodies, reclaim their strength, and return to the life they want to live.

She sees every person as more than a diagnosis or injury. Erica takes the time to understand not just what’s happening physically, but how it’s affecting each patient’s daily life, goals, and emotional wellbeing. She values open communication, and her patients often describe her as someone who makes them feel heard, seen, and truly supported. Her sessions are guided by thoughtful listening, careful assessment, and a commitment to making each patient feel safe, respected, and empowered throughout their care.

In treatment, Erica blends clinical expertise with compassionate connection. She uses evidence-based practices—including manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, movement retraining, and innovative tools like myofascial decompression and Class IV laser therapy—alongside mindful education and body awareness techniques to create a truly individualized plan of care. Whether helping a runner get back to the trails, supporting a new mom healing after birth, or guiding a patient through pelvic floor therapy, she brings both precision and patience to every step of the process.

Erica also sees physical therapy as a collaborative journey—not something done to the patient, but something done with them. She works closely with her patients to set meaningful goals, celebrate progress, and build the confidence they need to move forward—not just pain-free, but empowered. She’s especially passionate about helping patients better understand their own bodies so they can feel in control of their recovery and long-term wellness.

Her ultimate goal is not only to relieve symptoms but to help her patients feel stronger, more aligned, and more connected to themselves than they were before they started. Because for Erica, healing isn’t just about returning to how things were—it’s about creating a new foundation that’s even more resilient, balanced, and whole.
